What are my financial rights if I separate from my partner? I am not listed as co-owner on the deeds or mortgage despite my contributing half to the mortgage payments...

I have been with my partner for 8 years and we have two school aged children. Over the past twelve months our relationship has got worse seeing us constantly fighting. He now wants to sell the house which is in his name and his ex-partner's name but I am concerned that he can do this leaving the children and me homeless. He is already in a solicitor battle with his ex over money regarding the house. She wants her share of the value. My name is not on the house or mortgage paperwork. What is the worst he can do? Can he sell it leaving us homeless ? I also need to know any financial rights that he has to fulfil for his two children.

I'm afraid you don't have many rights as you are not married. Unless you can show that you have made a substantial financial contribution to the value of his property eg by paying for building works or improvements, you have no entitlement to any share of it.

He is certainly liable to pay maintenance for the two children for as long as they are dependent, (and you should contact the Child Support Agency about this)  but nothing else.
